About the prize

Gunnar Svedbergs pris (en: the Gunnar Svedberg Award) was established in 2006 as a farewell gift to the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Gothenburg, Gunnar Svedberg. The prize is awarded annually at the university's doctoral award ceremony and is named after Svedberg for the student focus and care he showed during his term of office.

The prize consists of SEK 10,000 and a diploma. The jury has been appointed by the University of Gothenburg's student unions and consists of two students and two representatives from the university's staff, in addition to the organisation's president. The jury recommends the winner to the university board, which appoints the recipient of the award.

Who can nominate for the award? Who is entitled to receive it

Anyone with a connection to the University of Gothenburg is entitled to nominate for the award. Anyone studying (or recently graduated) at the University of Gothenburg can be nominated.

Who can I nominate?

Nominate a well-deserving student! A well-deserving student is a student who, in the spirit of Gunnar Svedberg, has worked for the benefit of the University of Gothenburg's students at the entire university. It is particularly meritorious if the winner's efforts have favoured collaboration between students in different parts of the university.

Members of the jury, the Board of the University of Gothenburg student unions (GUS) and the Board of the University of Gothenburg as well as their related parties cannot be awarded the prize.

How do I nominate?

Nominations must be received by the President of the University of Gothenburg student unions no later than 23 June 2024. Nominations should be sent to ordf@gus.gu.se. Mark the email with ‘Gunnar Svedbergs pris 2024’.

Nominations must include the name and contact details of both yourself and the person you are nominating, as well as a motivation.
